New On Prime Video January 2022: Judge Dredd, Super Troopers, And More

Amazon Prime Video is doing its part to make January worth looking forward to well in advance of the holidays–check out the streaming service’s newly-announced full set of movies, shows, and other original content for next month. Here’s what you can expect to watch on the streaming service in January.

Things get off to a great start next year right away on January 1 with a load of action and cult-classic movies–arguably leading the pack is Judge Dredd. The movie takes place in a dystopian future where Judge Dredd–Sylvester Stallone in one of his more undersung roles–who is the most famous Judge (a police officer with instant field judiciary powers), is convicted for a crime he did not commit, and must work against a broken system to exact revenge. Long before comic-book film adaptations were so bankable as reliable box-office successes, the movie also doubles as an insight into what that era looked like in 1995.

Another highlight on January 1 is 2002’s Super Troopers. The epitome of early ’00s stoner comedy, the film always seemed destined to be a one-off until the against-all-odds 2018 sequel changed that. And don’t forget, there’s the similarly improbable though reportedly still upcoming Super Troopers 3. But back in 2002, when Super Troopers came out and had to stand on its own, it was a goofy movie about five Vermont state troopers/avid pranksters with a knack for screwing up, trying to save their jobs, and out-sleuth the local police department. As we ponder whatever complications 2022 might have ahead for us–why not revisit a simpler time with a straightforward comedy?
