Hulu is doing its part to make January worth looking forward to well in advance of the holidays–check out the streaming service’s newly-announced full set of movies, shows, and other original content for next month. Here’s what you can expect to watch on the streaming service in January.
For fans of stories arguably told in the most circuitous ways imaginable, take note: On January 18, Hulu will begin rolling out Season 1 of How I Met Your Father with a two-episode premiere. In this gender-swapped spin-off/reboot, Hilary Duff stars in the leading role. The upcoming show’s logline is as follows: “In the near future, Sophie is telling her son the story of how she met his father: a story that catapults us back to the year 2021 where Sophie and her close-knit group of friends are in the midst of figuring out who they are, what they want out of life, and how to fall in love in the age of dating apps and limitless options.” It’s unclear whether the pandemic will factor into the show set in a year that likely many of us–by then–will be eager to leave behind and hopefully soon forget.
On January 10–hear us out on this one–Hulu will be releasing The Golden Palace in its entirety for you watching glory. Never heard of it? It’s The Golden Girls spin-off without Bea Arthur that nobody remembers, but enjoyed a lift in 2019 after Don Cheadle told Conan O’Brien during a late-night appearance discussed his role in it. Even if you were never a big Golden Girls fan, all 24 episodes are worth watching for cheesy ironic sitcom laughs–and also to spot the huge celebrities who had early bit parts in it like Jack Black and Stephen Root. Although the title might seem to suggest it’s about a Chinese restaurant, it’s instead about the girls opening a luxurious Miami resort. Why not make all of January about appreciating spin-offs?
